A mother and her small baby descend from high in the forest canopy to collect and feed on items provided as part of their rehabilitation. It turns out to be a rather endearing bonding session as the mother watches over, cradles, and feeds her playful baby, ultimately feeding him with her mouth. Lots of interesting behavior in this film! At Semenggoh, the Orangutans free roam in the forests and are monitored and subsidized (such as with food and medicine). The aim of the reserve is to rehabilitate wild animals who have been injured or orphaned, with the objective of subsequently releasing them back to the wild. The particular adult Orangutan in this film was injured after she was shot by poachers (she has made a complete recovery). Filmed and edited by Ryan M. Bolton, MSc The Art of Conservation © Ryan M.
