I filmed this Satanic Leaf-tailed Gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus) using its tongue to clean its eye in the Ranomafana rain forest of eastern Madagascar. Many gecko species lack a moveable eyelid and must physically clean the modified transparent scale (called a brille) that covers and protects the eye. © Ryan M.
