fuzzy dice WMAQ Channel 5 - All About Kids: A Telling Tale (1986)

Here's a special production, "A Telling Tale", that aired over WMAQ Channel 5, in what was billed in the TV listings under "All About Kids".

This story - as much for moms and dads as for kids - deals with the subject of fear, and of getting proper help, for what is presumed to be some sort of abuse, or sexual abuse - all set in a fairy tale motif and with musical numbers.

This production stars Skye Forrest as Tina (a victim of past abuse who is not believed by anyone), with Linda Ann Waner as Ozzie Owl (who's afraid of the dark and carries a flashlight), Christine McHugh as Squeak Squirrel, Venice Johnson as Clarity, and ??????????????? (yes, that's how it was presented) as the Wolf.

Ozzie Owl opening the program with the program's basic premise, followed by the opening title and Tina coming out singing "Where Am I?," then encountering Ozzie in a tree and then joined inside by Squeak who's running from a wolf who fancies squirrels, and all seeking out Clarity. When they emerge from the tree, the Wolf is lying in wait.

While the three characters are asleep, the Wolf touches Tina which further traumatizes her; the characters then break into another song before reaching Temptation Curve en route to Clarity, but Squeak is pushed into a well by the Wolf, and Tina and Ozzie try to get the squirrel out as...

The three characters are now at Wisdom Woods, where they finally reach Clarity who says she was behind them the whole time. Clarity advises Tina to "find the right ones to tell" about her story, then gives sage advice to Squeak (who's forever afraid of "doing the wrong things") and has Ozzie ditch the flashlight. She then breaks into song with "Never Give Up." The program ends with Tina advising people not to let fear stop them from taking a stand and doing the right thing.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, March 8th 1986 during the 6:00pm to 6:30pm timeframe. (repeated twice, on Sunday, March 30th 1986 at 6:30 AM & Sunday, June 8th 1986 at 6:30 AM)

Addendum Note: When this program originally aired, it was immediately followed by another half-hour program, entitled "A Telling Tale Follow-Up", which was listed as "a discussion about childhood fears and child abuse". Haven't found that yet.
