Clinical Improvement: Examples of Excellence in The Netherlands and Sweden

The Dutch Association of Surgeons has played a major role in concentration of complex care, improvements in care processes and outcomes for patients, a reduction in costs and public transparency of indicator results on hospital level. The next step is to examine centres with higher and lower degree of success, to identify the best practices and to learn from them. A good example is the Swedish National Stroke Council who conducted a survey among Swedish Stroke Centres to compare centres with higher and lower degree of success and to explore underlying factors and stimulate quality improvements.
